On 29th August we plan two activities:

1. 15:00-17:00 Visit to Deutsches Bergbau Museum (German Mining Museum). Price for one ticket: 6,50 Euro.

2. 18:00-21:00 Excursion to Hattingen, a beautiful small town, dinner.

The German mining museum in Bochum is with 400.000 visitors per year one of most visited museums in Germany. It is one of the most important mining museums in the world and at the same time a renowned research institute.
Above ground exhibitions and a true to original mine in the underground of the museums premises provide visitors an insight into the world of mining. The pit frame that was originally a part of the coal-mine Germania in Dortmund allows a good view over Bochum and the Ruhrgebiet. Since 1995 a model of the last German mining horse Tobias is exhibited in the mine.
Research in the institute is focused on the history of mining and the documentation, protection and conservation of cultural assets, mainly those related to mining.
Both the building of the museum was desiged by Fritz Schupp and Heinrich Holzapfel, Fritz Holzapfel also designed the pit frame that has been part of the museum since the 1970s.
Sponsoring society of the museum is the “Association of friends of Art and Culture in mining”. Responsible body is the German Montan Industry.
The German mining museum is part of the Industrial Heritage Route ( Route der Industriekultur).

Hattingen is situated between two castles
Hardly any other town in the Ruhr region can offer so much: Hattingen is situated between two castles. The remains of
the two castles, Burg Blankenstein and Isenburg, are impressively reminiscent of the times around 1200. The town on
the Ruhr celebrated its 600th anniversary in 1996 and it is especially the combination of modern age and medieval flair
that predominantly makes up the charm of the town at the Ruhr loop between the two castles.
